Adrian Belew’s resume is filled with laudable work, including stints with King Crimson, David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Talking Heads, nine inch nails, Laurie Anderson and more. Now the guitarist and singer can add Kentucky Colonel to his list of achievements.

Belew has been named a Colonel of Kentucky in a proclamation from the state’s governor, Matthew G. Bevin; the Colonel status honors “noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to a community, state or the nation.”

Belew was born in Covington, Ky., in 1949, where he started out playing drums and then switched to guitar.

He most recently toured with his Adrian Belew Power Trio and releases new music through the mobile apps FLUX by belew and FLUX-FX. He’s also just launched a new band, Gizodrome, with former Police drummer Stewart Copeland, Level 42 bassist Mark King and Italian prog rock veteran Vittorio Cosma.
