Santana’s classic band will be getting together for the first time since 1973 for a special Las Vegas show later this month.

The Original Santana Band, which features Carlos Santana (guitar, vocals), Gregg Rolie (keyboards, lead vocals), Neal Schon (guitar, vocals), Michael Carabello (percussion), and Michael Shrieve (drums), played the House of Blues, located inside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, on March 21.

The televised performance includes tunes from the first three Santana studio recordings, which members of the quintet recorded together, as well as from the upcoming Santana IV album, which comes out April 15.

The five “classic Santana” members also play together on the new recording with the support of current Santana band members Karl Perazzo (percussion) and Benny Rietveld (bass) along with Ronald Isley of the Isley Brothers, who sings on two of the album’s 16 all-new tracks.

Santana IV came together several years ago when Schon approached Santana about working together. Excited by his suggestion, the Mexican guitar maestro then upped the ante by suggesting they go ahead and get the old crew back together; the five of them began writing and rehearsing in 2013 and recorded the album over the two following years.

“It just felt like it was the right time to partake in this chemistry that Santana has,” Santana said in a behind-the-scenes YouTube video about the new recording. (SEE BELOW).

“It’s really fun. You know? And there’s a lot of joy. Because there’s a lot of deep appreciation and we value each other now,” he added.

Tickets for the Las Vegas Original Santana band went on sale in early March.
