New Barbarians, the short-lived all-star band led by Rolling Stones guitarists Ron Wood and Keith Richards, is remembered in depth via the new book New Barbarians: Outlaws Gunslingers and Guitars.

Written by music industry veteran Rob Chapman, the book begins with Richards’ 1977 drug bust in Toronto and how the New Barbarians — formed to back Wood on live dates to support his 1979 Gimme Some Neck album — helped him rehabilitate.

The book chronicles the recording of Gimme Some Neck as well as performances by the New Barbarians for 1978 charity shows in Oshawa, Ontario, that were part of Richards’ sentence and a month-long tour during April of 1979.  New Barbarians also included Wood’s Faces mate Ian McLagan on keyboards, Stanley Clarke on bass, Meters drummer Joseph “Zigaboo” Modeliste and longtime Stones saxophonist Bobby Keys.

In addition to plenty of photos and memorabilia, the book also comes with a 10-track CD of rehearsal and concert performances from the tour.
